This was a recreation of a wedding cake for a 50th wedding anniversary. The original cake was several tiers, so I just picked out 2 tiers to make a small centerpiece cake with. I also made a sheet cake, but forgot to take a photo of that. :)

Since I last posted, I finally launched a Facebook page for my little "business" aka hobby. :) If you're on Facebook and haven't "liked" my page yet, here's the address: http://www.facebook.com/TheSweetandSassyBaker. I'm posting all my pictures there as well as on here. It also allows people to leave recommendations, feedback, and send me messages. :) It's been a hit, I'd say...I've had it for a week and already have 179 "likes" and just this week had orders for 10 dozen cupcakes, 3 birthday cakes and 3 dozen bars! Uff...speaking of which, I still have some cake to decorate! LOL. For those who are not on Facebook, here are some more of my recent cakes... The football was made out of rice krispie bars and covered in chocolate and vanilla almond bark. The cake was snickers flavor and in Denver Broncos colors. ;) This was another snickers cake, beach theme, for a good friend's mom! I think it turned out cu
Here are a few cakes I've made recently - the first one is a "replica" cake I made for a 50th Wedding Anniversary. I didn't have much to go on, except one black and white picture from 1962, so I had to basically wing it, but I am happy with how it turned out! This cake I did this week, it was for a coworker's husband's birthday - surfing theme, obviously. :) It was a fun cake to make, nice to do something different. I love that people give me the ability to be so creative! I used graham cracker crumbs for the "sand" and made the surf board, towel and flip flops out of gumpaste. I painted the design on the surfboard with food coloring paste. :) These two fun little cakes were for a 50th Birthday Party with an 80's theme. . .here is the cassette tape cake, I covered an 11x15 cake with a few layers of fondant. This cake was really time consuming, and wasn't quite as perfect as I would have liked, but overall I think it turned out good. It was definitely more challenging than I thought it was going to be and I wish I would have used a silver board so the cake would have stood out more! And here is the sheet cake to go along with the tape cake - I made little hoop earrings out of gum paste and 80's era shades with almond bark colored green.
I saw the idea on Pinterest for the wheel cake and knew I had to make it for my Grandma, whose birthday just happened to be this past Sunday when I was back in my hometown. The original idea was to make the wheel and set it on a sheet cake positioned in portrait instead of landscape (you following me?) and then we were going to put the puzzle board on the bottom half of the cake. Well, after we decided that the wheel should be on a turn table so it actually spun (yes, you could spin the wheel!), it was too big to fit on the cake and still have room. Soooo....we did 2 cakes, and I think it turned out pretty good. I say we because my 17 year old sister helped with the cutting of the pieces and other decorating! She's a good lil baker, too! :) Here are the pics!
This cake was for an old coworker's little girl who is turning 6 this week. I LOVED the theme as I am a huge zebra print fan as well as pink and black! The main cake was snickers with the carmel buttercream and the cupcakes were banana with the carmel buttercream. I used fondant strips for the zebra stripes and used chocolate & vanilla almond bark (colored) to make the cupcake toppers. :) I think it turned out cute and I think the Birthday girl liked it!
I hope you all had a wonderful and safe 4th of July! :) I had to work at the hospital, so I made these festive cupcakes for our Holiday Potluck! They were Red Velvet with Cream Cheese Frosting.
I got asked to make some cupcakes for a Baptism, here are a couple pictures. The flavors are Red Velvet and Coconut Cream. It was nice to do a little different theme. I made the pink crosses with vanilla candy melts and the cupcake toppers with gum paste. I have a cake to do the next 3 weekends, I can't wait to make them! :)
I got asked to make a "Creeper" cake for a coworker's husband. I had no idea what a "creeper" is, and I'm betting you may not, either! :-) This is a "Creeper" ... it's from the Computer game, Minecraft... And THIS is the cake I made to resemble a "Creeper"! It was made out of chocolate cake, which I mixed an entire bag of Heath toffee bits in, and frosted it with Carmel buttercream frosting. My coworker LOVED it, and said it tasted delicious, so the cake was a success! :) This weekend I will be making 6 dozen Baptism cupcakes for a friend of mine's sister! Check back Sunday for pictures! :)
The wedding flowers were Peonies, so when I googled Peony wedding cake, I came across this pretty little cake... Below is my take on this cake - the bottom two tiers were Styrofoam and the top was vanilla cake and the whole thing was covered with vanilla decorator frosting like my mom used to make. :) The cake was fairly easy to do with the messier frosting technique, and I think once I got the flowers on it, it turned out pretty good (especially considering this was my 2nd wedding cake ever!). The final picture is of the cake and cupcakes at the reception site, I thought it all looked very nice once it was all put together!
