Here are a few cakes I've made recently - the first one is a "replica" cake I made for a 50th Wedding Anniversary. I didn't have much to go on, except one black and white picture from 1962, so I had to basically wing it, but I am happy with how it turned out!
This cake I did this week, it was for a coworker's husband's birthday - surfing theme, obviously. :) It was a fun cake to make, nice to do something different. I love that people give me the ability to be so creative! I used graham cracker crumbs for the "sand" and made the surf board, towel and flip flops out of gumpaste. I painted the design on the surfboard with food coloring paste. :)
These two fun little cakes were for a 50th Birthday Party with an 80's theme. . .here is the cassette tape cake, I covered an 11x15 cake with a few layers of fondant. This cake was really time consuming, and wasn't quite as perfect as I would have liked, but overall I think it turned out good. It was definitely more challenging than I thought it was going to be and I wish I would have used a silver board so the cake would have stood out more!
And here is the sheet cake to go along with the tape cake - I made little hoop earrings out of gum paste and 80's era shades with almond bark colored green.
I grew up in a small town and am lucky enough to have two amazing grandmas and a wonderful mom in my family who taught me how to bake. My mom had a cake baking/decorating business when I was growing up so that is what fueled my interest in cakes...birthday cakes, wedding cakes, cupcakes ... you name it - I love them!
