I was asked to make a cake to celebrate a co-worker's 40th year of being a nurse. I decided to experiment using Fondant , and I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was! I made Marshmallow Fondant, which consisted of melted marshmallows, butter and powdered sugar. The cake itself was 2 layers of Graham cracker cake and a layer of chocolate cake in the middle covered with chocolate butter cream. I made the pills, band-aids and syringe out of gum paste and the stethoscope out of fondant. I enjoyed making this - it took me quite awhile, but I had fun doing it!
I also made some cupcakes to go along with the cake - they were Snickers and Strawberry Sour Cream with Cream Cheese frosting. I did not get a photo of the Strawberry cupcakes, but these were the chocolate ones. Again, the band-aids and Nurse Hats were made out of Gum Paste. The photo quality is not the best because the pics were taken with my phone. :)
When watching baking shows, I've always been fascinated with fondant. What a great job, April!

About Me
I grew up in a small town and am lucky enough to have two amazing grandmas and a wonderful mom in my family who taught me how to bake. My mom had a cake baking/decorating business when I was growing up so that is what fueled my interest in cakes...birthday cakes, wedding cakes, cupcakes ... you name it - I love them!
